Double Devil - Biography
Danish heavy-metal act Double Devil seek to revive the style of the 1980's metal scene, where catchy riffs, sing-along melodies and shredding solos was a must-have, while disregarding the countless subgenres, which since have emerged from scenes vast array of newcomers. With all five members being experienced musicians, though still in their early twenties and each with different background, this band is both for metal lovers and headbangers, as well as listeners who simply enjoy good music
Double Devil is a five-piece line-up, originally formed by Claus Thylstrup and Per Aastrup. Being old friends, Claus and Per had perpetually been searching for musicians for a band, and even though various people had been in and out of the rehearsal room, it wasn’t until late 2005 that things started to take shape.
Niels von Holck was introduced to Claus and Per, by a mutual friend of theirs. And a quick audition determined that he fitted in perfectly. Still being in need of a bass player and a singer, the three guys decided to start recording whatever material they had, in order to give potential band members an idea of what the band was all about. These sessions took place at Claus and Per’s Mischief Studio in their house. During these recordings, Niels came up with the idea of asking Snakebite, the singer of his G’N’R jam band, to join, and after a couple of jams in Claus and Per’s house, he accepted. A short while later Niels’ old jam-mate Lars Østergaard was asked to join on bass. He too accepted, and relocated from Aalborg to Århus in June of 2006. These recordings ended up being their first EP.
Double Devil finished writing and recording ”Port of Call", in September 2006, and afterwards spent their time getting as many gigs as possible. New material soon emerged from the rehearsal studio though, and in the spring of 2007 they started recording their second EP “Personal Favorite Venom”. Once again the studio in Claus and Per’s house was used for recording and mixing sessions, but this time around, Jan Borsing took care of the mastering session which gave the CD a notch up, quality wise. Double Devil marked the release with a live performance and release party at their favorite hangout place, the Billabong Bar, Århus, Denmark on August 18th 2007.
